Mary E. (Baker) Thoen, age 60 of River Falls, died Saturday, September 20, 2008 from Esophageal cancer at home surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Prescott, Wisconsin on August 19, 1948 to Leo W. and Delite H. (Peterman) Baker. On November 27, 1968 she was united in marriage to David A. Thoen. The first year of their married life, David and Mary lived in Okinawa, Ryukian Islands while David served in the Army. Returning to the United States in December 1969, they made their home in River Falls and have lived there ever since. To this 40-year union three children were born Jonathan, Jennifer and Jessica. Mary was a Girl Scout from second grade to junior high and wanted her daughters to enjoy the activities of scouting, so she became a troop leader for Troop 1224. She was not only a leader for six years, but also a member of the River Falls Service Team for four years. Mary enjoyed many other activities: woodworking, quilting, sewing, crocheting, cross-stitch, candle making, and cake decorating. She also enjoyed playing cards and games, but her greatest joy was being a Mom and Gamma and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Those loved ones who have passed before Mary are her parents, Leo and Delite Baker, her parents-in-law George and Agnes (Schorn) Thoen, brother-in-law Ron Thoen, sisters-in-law Gwen Looman and Sharon Foss. Those left to mourn her loss are her loving husband David, son Jonathan and daughters Jennifer and Jeremiah Pinski and Jessica, grandchildren Kylie and Grant Kohl all of River Falls, WI. Brothers James and Joan (Prescott, WI), Joseph and Inez (San Diego, CA), Robert and Kathleen (Prescott, WI), Richard and Sherolyn (Sycamore, IL) and William and Virginia (Prescott, WI), sisters-in-law Janet Rovney (Wautoma, WI), Diane Miller (New Richmond, WI) and Lee Ann and Donald Sorenson (Eau Claire, WI), Brothers-in-law George and Tootie Wilbur (Ellsworth, WI), Thomas and Barbara (Prescott, WI), Micheal and Cindy Hayes (River Falls, WI), many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Special friends Karen (Kakac) Endicott, Dennis and Patricia Blevins and the members of the Library Quilt Guild. She will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her. All were invited to join in celebrating Mary’s life at a visitation at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church at 9:00 am with a funeral mass at 11:00 am. on Tuesday September 23, 2008. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls. |
