FREY

Lorraine C. Frey age 82 of New Richmond passed away peacefully after a long illness on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at The Deerfield.  She was born the daughter of Philip and Elvera (Wahlberg) Warner on September 3, 1925 in Deer Park.  On March 31, 1950, Lorraine married Marvin F. Frey in Minneapolis/St. Paul Fort Snelling Chapel.  She was a nurse in the New Richmond area for over 50 years.  Lorraine volunteered in the community, was active at Christ Lutheran Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Loyal Chapter 67 of Star Prairie.  She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother, spending time with friends and traveling.  Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; and brothers, Harlan, Loren and Wahlberg Warner.  She is survived by her children, Greg (Christa Perrin) Frey of New Richmond, Sandy (Todd Handevidt) Hohler of Stillwater, Pam Frey of Somerset, and Debbie (Leon Jr.) Chovan of New Richmond; grandchildren, Layla Frey, Eric Frey, James Johnson, Steve (Lisa) Hohler, Amy (Brad) Briggs, Erin Cutler, Ryan Cutler, Angela Schultz, David Schultz, Sam Chovan; great grandchildren, Jackie and Rachel Briggs, Alli, Lindsey, Madisyn and Derek Hohler, and Damian Cutler; sisters, Phyllis Humpal, Evie (Ira) Sumner, Anne Stuntz, Arlene Warner, Ruth Severson and many nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church in Somerset with The Rev. Carol Peterson officiating.  Music will be provided by Layla Frey accompanied by Sharon Neuenfeldt.  Visitation will be held on Monday, May 26, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Beebe Mortuay in New Richmond with a Loyal Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:30 pm.  Visitation will also be held on Tuesday from 1:00-2:00 pm at church.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Deer Park with Steve Hohler, Brad Briggs, Ryan Cutler, David Schultz and Eric Frey as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Angela Schultz, Erin Cutler, Lisa Hohler, Amy Briggs, Layla Frey and James Johnson.  Arrangements are with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

PANTER

Dorothy Panter, age 76 of New Richmond, died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at her home.  Dorothy was born the daughter of Joseph and Cecelia Raboin on August 24, 1931 in Somerset, Wisconsin.  She attended and was a graduate of New Richmond High School.  Dorothy was married to Robert Panter in 1952, the couple lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin for a few years, then moved back to the New Richmond area in 1968.  Dorothy worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Holy Family Hospital and later as a CNA at Maple Manor.  She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and loved to go to garage sales and estate sales.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Cecelia Raboin; husband, Robert Panter; son John Panter; and brother, John Raboin.  Dorothy is survived by her son, James Panter and wife, Laura of New Richmond; grandchildren, James Panter, Jennifer Panter, and David Panter; great-grandchildren; Alexis Butler and Brayden Butler; sisters, Bette Rivard and husband, Richard of Somerset and Annette Germain and husband, Vincent of Somerset; brothers, James Raboin and wife, Louise of Somerset and Noel Raboin of New Richmond; and many nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 11 am at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in New Richmond.  Visitation will also be on Friday from 10-11 am at St. Luke’s.  Private interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery in Somerset.  Pallbearers are Joe Rivard, Price Rivard, Danny Germain, Kenny Germain, David Panter, and Jim Panter.  Arrangements are with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

HALLQUIST

Marita Angeline (Witucki) Hallquist, 85, of River Falls, WI died on Monday, May 19th, 2008, at the Peter and Ellen Johnson Residence, a hospice facility in Madison, WI with her children at her side.  Marita was born August 8th, 1922 in Frederic, WI, the daughter of Frank D. and Clara (Talledge) Witucki.  She was baptized at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church and was confirmed at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Frederic, WI.  Marita loved growing up in the “great town” of Frederic.  She was active in Forensics and competed at State in “Humorous Declaration”.  She graduated from Frederic High School in June 1939 and attended college at Superior State Teachers’ College (now UW-Superior).  Music was an important part of Marita’s life.  The highlight of her college music career was being the contralto soloist for the college and community production of Handel’s “Messiah”, and performing as a soloist at commencement her senior year.  Marita graduated from college in 1943 with a degree in elementary education.  She began her career teaching kindergarten in the Superior, WI public schools from 1943-1947.  She returned to Frederic, WI and on August 14th, 1948 she married Leonard Richard Hallquist at Zion Lutheran Church, Trade Lake, WI.  Marita and Len lived in Luck, WI from 1948-1955.  On August 12th, 1953 their daughter Sharon was born.  In October, 1955 the family moved to River Falls.  In November 1955, they joined Ezekiel Lutheran Church.  The following week Marita joined Rebekah Circle and remained a member until her death.  Ezekiel Lutheran Church played a central role in Marita’s life.  She sang in choir, worked with Junior Lutherans, and directed confirmation choir.  She also served as an officer in WELCA, on the Memorials and Gifts committee and various committees during the building of the sanctuary.  On August 18th, 1958 her son David was born. She began teaching kindergarten again in 1965.  Marita would teach another 22 years in River Falls, for a total of 27 years teaching.  During that time she would touch the lives of over 1,400 students.  Marita retired from teaching in 1987.  Marita was a member of many professional teacher associations and local groups.  She served on the River Falls Library Foundation Board.  Marita enjoyed traveling, as she was always interested in other people and cultures. Throughout her life she traveled with her family across the United States and Canada.  In her retirement she traveled with her husband to the British Isles, Europe, Scandinavia, Hawaii, and China. After Len’s death she traveled to the South Pacific, Panama Canal, Scotland, Switzerland, and Europe as well as other parts of the United States with her sister. She instilled her love of travel in her children.  Marita spent much time in Madison visiting Sharon’s family.  She attended as many of her granddaughter’s plays, concerts, and dance recitals as she would have if they had lived near by.  Marita was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She was a mentor and a leader professionally.  She taught her children to be interested in everything, to respect everyone, and to find beauty everywhere. Marita was happy and grateful for what she was able to do in her life.  She is survived by her two children: Sharon (Gregory) Moses, Madison, WI, and David Hallquist, River Falls, WI; her sister Frances Bollenbeck, Appleton, WI; and two granddaughters, Laurel and Lindsey Moses, Madison, WI; as well as five nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1990; and by her parents.  A visitation will be held on Friday May 23rd at Bakken-Young Funeral home from 4-8 pm.  A service remembering her life will be held at Ezekiel Lutheran Church at 11am on Saturday May 24th. The burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation services of River Falls.

GROVER

Rachael Marie (Bloom) Grover, age 31 of River Falls died on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Gathering in Stillwater, Minnesota after a 6 month battle with a recurrence of melanoma cancer.  She was born the daughter of Marty and Geri (Jensen) Bloom on October 5, 1976 in Watertown, South Dakota.  She graduated from Watertown High School with the class of 1995.  Rachael attended classes at the University of Wisconsin River Falls for 2 years, and San Jose City College for 2 years.  She moved to River Falls in July of 2001.  On December 22, 2001 she married Isaac Grover in Watertown.  Rachael was a member of the United Methodist Church in River Falls.  Rachael and Isaac were volunteers with the Red Cross, helping victims of house fires.  She enjoyed music and loved to sing.  She loved to garage sale and shop with her mother.  Rachael is preceded in death by her grandpa, Glenn Jensen; son, Michael Wesley Grover; uncles, Michael Bloom, Gregory Jensen, and Patrick Cypher; and aunt, Carol Brown.  She is survived by her husband, Isaac Grover; daughter, Makayla AnnMarie Grover; parents, Marty and Geri Bloom; sister, Amanda Lynn O’Malley; brother, Adam Glenn Bloom; nephews, Eric, Alexander, Jordan, and Justin O’Malley; grandparents, Earl and Cora Bloom and Rose Jensen; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 11 am at the United Methodist Church in River Falls.  Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 7 from 4-8 pm at the United Methodist Church and on Thursday from 9-11 am at the church.  Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery.  A fund for Makayla has been set up to receive donations at the Associated Bank in River Falls.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.

STEVERMER

Gordon B. Stevermer age 83 of New Richmond passed away peacefully Saturday, May 3, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his family.  He was born the son of George and Mabel (Johnson) Stevermer on September 21, 1924 in Polk County, Wisconsin.  Gordon served his country in the US Army during WWII.  On September 21, 1949, he married Marion McCourt in Lindstrom, MN.  Gordon worked as a canning supervisor at Friday Canning in New Richmond for many years.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; and son, Jack.  Gordon is survived by his wife, Marion; son Glenn (Sandra) Stevermer and their children, Michelle and Sean; daughter, Jean (Nick) Travaglio; brothers, Harold and Walter (Shirley) Stevermer.  A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 7th at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church in New Richmond with The Rev. Lowell Bolstad and The Rev. Curtis Thomassen officiating.  Music was provided by Rev. Curtis Thomassen accompanied by Kathy Wettig.   Visitation was Tuesday, May 6th from 4-8 pm at Beebe Mortuary and also from 10-11 am on Wednesday at the church.  Interment was in Granum Cemetery in Milltown, WI with Glenn Stevermer, Sean Stevermer, Nick Travaglio, Steven Rustin, John Harrington and Dick Donatelle as the pallbearers.  Arrangements were with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

HAGLUND

Eugene Edwin Haglund, Age 78 of Maiden Rock, died at home on May 2, 2008.  He was born December 30, 1929 in Lake City, Minnesota to Elmer and Anna (Eggenberger) Haglund.  Eugene served in the Air Force from 1950 – 1953.  Eugene enjoyed fishing, painting, dry walling, wood working, draft horses, watching westerns (THE Ultimate John Wayne Fan), wrestling, cooking, baking, gardening, canning, yard work, cutting lawn, singing, dancing, his pets, shopping, attending auctions, being the REAL Santa Clause, and, most importantly spending time with family and friends.   Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Anna Haglund; brother, Bob (Laurel) Haglund and infant brother Rodrick Haglund.   He is survived by his wife, Cita Pichler; son,  Neal Haglund of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters, Pamm Haglund and husband, Joe Kwasinski of Littleton, Colorado and Sandie Kopp and husband, Scott of Maiden Rock, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Travis and Marcy Kopp; brothers and sisters, Dorothy (Harvey) Brittle of Jacksonville, Florida, Marvel (Michael) Zullo of Wilmette, Illinois, Sally (Orlando) Thorne of Plum City, Wisconsin, Don (Nancy) Haglund of Anchorage, Alaska, Chuck (Marie) Haglund of St. Paul, Minnesota, Dean Haglund of Plum City, Wisconsin, Denny (Carol) Haglund, Sr. of Plum City, Wisconsin, Brenda (Ronald) Anderson of White Bear lake, Minnesota, and Cheryl (James) Loeffler of St. Paul, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.  A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Sabylund Lutheran Church in Lund, Wisconsin.  Visitation was held on Monday, May 5, 2008 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Bakken Young Funeral Home in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin.  Interment was in the Sabylund Cemetery.  Honorary Pallbearers are Travis Kopp, Greg Zullo, Chad Haglund, Denny Haglund, Jr., Matt Haglund, Todd Anderson, Dan Haglund, John Thorne, Chuck Haglund, Don Haglund, Dean Haglund and Denny Haglund, Sr.  Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Maiden Rock

EDIN

Florence L. Edin age 96 of Hudson died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Christian Community Home, where she was a resident since January.  She was born the daughter of Herman and Emma Teich on December 21, 1911 in Pine City, MN.  Florence taught for several years at a country school in Pine City.  On October 9, 1937, she married Emmett Edin.  The couple stayed in Pine City and were blessed with five children; Murray, Kaye, Tom, Clay and Joel.  In 1955, the family moved to Hudson.  Florence was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 53 years.  She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, sisters, and her husband, Emmett (1984).  Florence is survived by her children, Murray Edin, Kaye (David) Mithum, Tom (Vickie) Edin, Clay (Janet) Edin, Joel (Diane) Edin; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Lauretta Teich; and many nieces and nephews.  Florence’s entire 96 years were  solely devoted to the love of her church and her family.  Nothing was more important.   She was also very creative and loved to sew, knit, bake and braid rugs.  She made homemaking an art form long before Martha Stewart.  Flowers and the beauty of nature were a constant joy in her life as were her friends.    She worked so hard for so many years, always trusting someday God would bring her home.  Let God and the angels care for you now, Mom, today heaven has become a much richer place.  A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 30th at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson with The Rev. Tim Booth officiating.  Visitation was from 10:00-11:00 am Wednesday before the service at the church.  Interment was in Willow River Cemetery with Nathan,, Joseph , David , and Luke Edin, Jason Steele and Aaron Mithum as  pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers are Lois Teich, Emily Sickmann and Sharon Sward.   Arrangements were with Bakken –Young Funeral & Cremation Service of Hudson

Kathryn Dodge, age 102 of New Richmond died on Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Deerfield in New Richmond.  Private services were held.  Arrangements were with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

JOHNSON

Suanna Johnson, age 49 of North Hudson died on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at The Gathering at Boutwells Landing in Stillwater, Minnesota.  Suanna was born the daughter of Charles and Delores (Alcorn) Johnson on April 19, 1959 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.  She was a graduate of St. Croix Lutheran High School in West St. Paul with the class of 1978, and attended the University of Wisconsin River Falls for two years.  Suanna worked at Andersen Windows for 22 years. She was a member of Salt Company, a Hudson ecumenical youth group, and was a team leader with Teen Missions.   She also was a member of the Valley Arts Guild, and served on the board for True Life Ministries.  Suanna loved horses, traveling and photography.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Delores Johnson.  She survived by her brother, Jeff Johnson and wife, Joan of Oakdale, Minnesota; a niece and nephew; and many friends.  A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 11 am at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Hudson with the Reverend Sandra Kalland officiating.  Visitation was also on Saturday from 9-11 am at the funeral home.  Private interment will be in the Willow River Cemetery.  Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Hudson.

YE

Garrit Mack Ye, Devoted Husband, loving Dad and Grandpa.  Age 77, of River Falls WI, Sedona AZ, and Minneapolis MN, had a peaceful end to his struggle with Alzheimer’s and heart disease on April 21, 2008.  He was the son of Garrit and Sara Ye of Minneapolis.  He grew up in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood together with his younger brother, Paul, who survives him.  His active and industrious nature led to an amazing variety of occupations and pursuits:  engineering student; USAF B-29 pilot; dentist, first in the public health service at an Apache Indian reservation in Arizona and later in private practice in Minneapolis; Hereford cattleman; and skilful and profuse builder, variously constructing and/or renovating 9 houses, cabins and farms during his fruitful lifetime.   Garrit was a devoted husband to his wife, Benita, who died in 1996 and a loving dad to his 3 children: Greg (Karen), Corey, Gretchen (Daniel) Garrit’s grandchildren: Kaitlin, Tomas, Barbora, Evan, Isaac, and Caroline will all miss his playful and hearty laugh.  A funeral service was held on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 4:00 pm at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls.  Visitation was Monday from 2-4 pm at Ezekiel Lutheran Church.  Interment was in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.  Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.

CLARKE

Audrey Helen Clarke, 80, of Somerset, Wisconsin formerly of Duluth, Minnesota died on April 20, 2008, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Audrey retired from UMD as a switchboard operator in 1989after 28 years.  She spent her retirement enjoying her family and friends.  They moved to Somerset, WI in 2002.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Helmer and Juanita Borgren; and brother, Calvin.  She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert; daughters, Susan Clarke of Somerset, WI, Diane Clarke of New Hope, MN, Gloria (Robert) Wilson of Charlotte, MI, Roberta Clarke of New Hope, MN, and Mary Jane (William) Larner of Perry, MI; sisters, Mary Ellen Thiel of Lake Villa, IL, Kathy (Bernie) Anderson of Wahpeton, ND; sisters-in-law, Helenann Clarke of Mission Viejo, CA, JoAnn Wain of Methuen, MA, Patricia Archer of Denver, CO; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  Special thanks to the Lakeview Hospice for their comfort and care. A private memorial for the family was held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery prior to burial.  In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Lakeview Hospice, Stillwater, Minnesota.

BOCHE

Leona Dorothy Boche age 84 of New Richmond died on Monday, April 14, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Society St. Croix Valley in St. Croix Falls.  She was born March 24, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Harry Dean and Grace Eunice Myrtle (Stevenson) Peterson.  Leona was baptized at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fridley, MN.  She graduated from Columbia Heights High School in 1941.  On June 1, 1946, Leona married Robert M. Boche at First Lutheran Church in St. Paul.  She worked as a secretary at the University of Minnesota for 5 years before marrying Robert.  After marriage, she worked as a bookkeeper for Meyer Feed Mill in Star Prairie and Pioneer Supply Company.  Leona worked as an administrative assistant at WITC for 26 years.  She was president of the St. Croix County Homemakers and vice chairman of the St. Croix County Republican Party.  Leona belonged to the Prairie View Homemakers, North Star Homemakers and Prime Timers at St. Luke’s Church.  She volunteered at Holy Family Hospital for many years.  Leona was very active at St. Luke’s, she served on the Stewardship Committee, served as treasurer for 8 years, and served as co-chairman of  the Serving Committee for many years.  Leona is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert M. Boche; daughter-in-law, Kris Boche; sister Jenny Manser.  She is survived by her children, Richard Boche of Wyoming, Robert (Joyce) Boche of Star Prairie, Timothy (Valerie) Boche of Emerald, Sharon (Karl) Wright of Colorado, Sandra (Marvin) Croes of New Richmond; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; siblings, Myrtle (Warren) Keniston, John (Joann) Peterson; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Rahn, Helen Boche and many nieces and nephews.  A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 11:00 am at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in New Richmond the Reverend Daniel Voth officiating.  Music was provided by Rich Dietrich accompanied by Bonnie Klopp.  Visitation was held on Friday, April 18th from 4-7 pm at St. Luke’s and also one hour before the service.  Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery with Geoff Boche, Ben Boche, Matt Boche, Aaron Boche, Tom Boche, Wyatt Boche and Doug Croes as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ida Kruschke, Marilyn Thomas, Virginia Kastens, Loretta Bethke, Marge Volkert and Char Schroll. Arrangements were with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

HILLEBRANDT

Roger Clarence Hillebrandt, age 62 of Star Prairie, WI died peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 10th, 2008.  Roger was born on October 25, 1945 in New Richmond to Clarence and Hertha (Meyer) Hillebrandt.  He graduated from New Richmond High School in 1965.  After graduation, Roger worked several years at UFE in Dresser.  Then he returned home to farm with his Dad.  Roger went to work for Lowell Volkert in 1991 and farmed until his death.  He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Hertha, and his sister Janice.  He is survived by his Aunt, Vivian Hillebrandt, and many cousins.  Funeral service for Roger was Saturday, April 12th at 11:00 a.m, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior to service.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Deer Park.  The funeral was presided over by Pastor Daniel Voth and music was provided by Kathy Wettig.  Pallbearers were Dennis Enser, Marlen Enser, Lowell Volkert, Steve Volkert, Brent Volkert, and Randy Demulling.  Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Wettig, Walt Schommer, John Hofland, and Arlen Luehmann.  Arrangements were with Beebe Mortuary of  New Richmond.

OLSON

Norma E. Olson, age 83 of New Richmond died Monday, April 7, 2008 at the St. Croix Health Center.  Norma was born the daughter of Albert and Dorothy (Witzel) Strese on August 17, 1924 in New Richmond.  She attended New Richmond High School graduating with the class of 1942.  On November 29, 1946 she was married to William J. Olson, Sr.  Norma worked for the St. Croix Telephone Company and at Krueger’s Grocery Store before having children, then became a homemaker and mother.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for post 80 in New Richmond and was a member of the United Methodist Church.  Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Dorothy Strese and her husband, William J. Olson, Sr.  She is survived by her sons, William J. Olson, Jr. of St. Paul, Minnesota and Robert (Christine Chaffee) Olson of St. Croix Falls, WI; sisters, Pearl (Robert) Emerson of New Richmond, Lucille (Robert) Haeg of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Lois (Douglas) Anderson of Crystal, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ruth Schillinger of New Richmond.  A  Funeral Service was held on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 1 pm at the United Methodist Church in New Richmond.  Visitation was also held on Thursday from 11-1 pm at the church.  Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.  Arrangements were with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

WAXON

Marion Waxon, age 97 of River Falls died on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Kinnic Long Term Care.  Marion was born the daughter of Gustaf and Maria (Swensson) Peterson on July 25, 1910 in DeKalb County, Illinois.  She attended grade school and high school in Warren, Minnesota graduating with the class of 1928. Waxon in Welch, Minnesota.  The couple farmed in the town of Troy and later in the town of River Falls.  Marion was an active member of Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls, participating in many groups and activities.  She was a member of the Fargo Mission Guild and was a 4H leader for many years.  She enjoyed needle work, gardening, playing cards, and reading.  In later years, because of her sight lost, listening to music was a comfort.  Marion is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; son, Charles; son-in-law; Gerald Liedholm; great-granddaughter, Marin Emily Pretzer; her brother and 3 sisters.  She is survived by her children, Phyllis Liedholm of Minneapolis, Leslie (Anne) Waxon of River Falls, Jean (Richard) Oelkers of Red Wing, and Helen (Kenneth) Spanjers of St. Paul; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Vern (Irene) Waxon of Hudson and sister-in-law, Vycella Waxon of Hudson; nieces, nephews and cousins.  A Funeral Service was held on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 11 am at Ezekiel Lutheran Church in River Falls.  Visitation was held on Sunday from 4-7 pm at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home and on Monday from 10-11 am at the church.  Interment was in the Willow River Cemetery with Marion’s grandchildren serving as pallbearers.  Memorials may be directed to Ezekiel Lutheran Church.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of River Falls.

ZAAR

Bertha Magdelen Zaar, “Binnie”, May she rest in peace.  She left us on March 20, 2008 at the age of 90.  Born April 18, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York to Samuel and Jennie (Yanka) Ban.  Survived by son, Carl of Franklin, Wisconsin; grandson, Ryan of Brookfield, Wisconsin and sister, Anita Gilbert of Joplin, Mo.  Preceded in death by her husband, Carl, parents, Sam and Jennie and brother, Eugene of Wichita, Kansas.  Binnie and Carl were life long residents of Hudson (60 years), where Carl was in the grocery business and Binnie was a photo colorist and then a homemaker for the rest of her life.  Both Carl and Binnie were involved in the Hudson community for many years and enjoyed living here with all of their friends.  Binnie spent the last seven years of her life at Pine Ridge/Christian Community Home and enjoyed working in the garden, playing bingo and mingling with all of the residents.  Memorials can be directed to Pine Ridge/Christian Community Home and earmarked to beautify the garden that she so loved and that she would want the rest of the residents to enjoy for years to come.  A thank you to all of the employees of both Pine Ridge/Christian Community Home for taking such great care of her.  It is deeply appreciated.  A funeral service was held on Monday, March 24th at 11:00 am at Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Hudson.  Visitation was Monday from 10-11 am at the funeral home.  Interment was in Willow River Cemetery in Hudson.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Hudson

WALSH

Patricia A. Walsh, 64, of Plum City, passed away Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Plum City Care Center, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Chicago on January 26, 1944, to George and Dorothy Walsh.  The family later moved to Tomah where Pat grew up and graduated from Tomah High School.  Later she earned a B.S. in Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Pat taught at the School for the Deaf in Delavan and in various schools in the Minneapolis area.  Pat loved literature and language from Shakespeare to contemporary works.  She also wrote stories and plays and composed musical pieces, too.  She loved various kinds of music from the classical works to the Beatles.  Pat once remarked that she hoped Heaven would be an endless library.  She was a most caring and generous person.  Her lovely smile and lilting laughter will always be remembered.  Pat is survived by her son, Kane Walsh, M.D. (Annika) of Twentynine Palms, California and grandchildren Sinjin, Calli, and Jasmine; a brother, Dennis (Joyce) Walsh, Pepin; and sisters, Suzanne Kraft, Birchwood and Linda (Art) Ritter, Tomah, and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Richard Kraft.  Private memorial services will be held in California at a later date.  Memorials in Pat’s name may be made to: Plum City Educational Foundation Incorporated, 907 Main Street, Plum City, WI 54761.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Service of Maiden Rock.

SCHEIDE

Genevieve Ione (Richardson) Scheide, 95, died on March 15, 2008 at the Springdale Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Springdale, Arkansas, where she had resided since January of 2006.  Born to William and May (Hunter) Richardson on August 8, 1912, in Ono, Wisconsin, Genevieve was the youngest of six daughters.  Genevieve graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1930, and obtained her teaching certificate from River Falls State Teachers College in 1933. She taught all six grades in one room schools in the Fisher, Murphy, and Conroy school districts in Pierce County.  On June 4, 1940, Genevieve married Milo Wayne Scheide.  The couple bought a farm five miles east of Ellsworth, where they raised their two children. After retiring from farming in 1972, Genevieve and Milo lived in Plum City until 2000, when they moved to Reedsburg, Wisconsin.  Genevieve was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, and traveling with her family. She loved the wild flowers of spring, and colored leaves in the fall.  Having grown up hearing stories about her grandfather’s family in Ryegate, Vermont, Genevieve visited cousins in that rural community for the first time, during the fall colors, when she was in her 90s.  She also made two visits to England during these later years.  Her family remembers Genevieve as a loving mother who liked to laugh and who was always full of fun.  Survivors include a son, Frank (Susan) Scheide of Fayetteville, Arkansas; a daughter, Kathleen (Steve) Metzenbauer of Wisconsin Dells; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Daniela Alice Scheide and Genevieve Sheyla Guadalupe Scheide, of Fayetteville, Arkansas.  Her husband, sisters, and parents preceded her in death.  A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. at the Ono Methodist Church on Saturday, March 22nd, with the Reverend John Hazen presiding. The church is located on Highway 10 between Ellsworth and Plum City.  Visitation was held on Saturday from 1-2 pm at the church.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will include Steven Metzenbauer, Bill Baker, Terry Christianson, Jim Scheide, Kris Almsted, Peter Scheide.  Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral and Cremation Services of Maiden Rock.

LEAVENS

Pat M. Leavens, age 68 of New Richmond, died on Friday, March 14, 2008 at the St. Croix Health Center.  Pat was born the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Ohlfs on July 16, 1939 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin.  She graduated from New Richmond High School with the class of 1957.  She attended the University of Wisconsin Stout for a short time.  On September 26, 1959 she was married to Don Leavens in Ladysmith.  Pat worked at 3M and for the Bank of New Richmond.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elizabeth Ohlfs; daughter, Diane Leavens; and sister, Virginia Rutledge.  Pat is survived by her husband, Donald Leavens; children, D.J. Leavens and wife, Mehl of Pensicola, Florida and Dennis Leavens and wife, Tiffany of New Richmond; grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Patricia, Donavan, Darryl, Diane, Paige, Seth, and Harley; and brothers, Jim Ohlfs and wife, Mary Kay of New Richmond and Richard Ohlfs of New Richmond.  A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 11 am at the Beebe Mortuary.  Memorial visitation was held on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from 5-8 pm at the Beebe Mortuary and on Wednesday for 1 hour before the service.  Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery.  Arrangements were with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

BJURQUIST

John Franklyn “Frank” Bjurquist age 74 of rural Plum City passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.  He was born the son of Leonard and Nanna (Peterson) Bjurquist on November 23, 1933 in Stockholm.  Frank was raised on the home farm in rural Stockholm (Lund), attended the Sabylund school through 8th grade when he began to work the farm for his ill father.  In 1952, he was drafted by the US Army during the Korean Conflict.  On April 23, 1960, Frank married Delores Malueg in Prescott.  The couple bought a farm in rural Plum City in 1963, adopted two children Todd (1970), Christina (1975) and stayed on the farm their entire life.  Frank loved farming and worked his fingers to the bone, but his true love was checking his cattle at Pine Creek pasture.  He was a dairy farmer, raised hogs and sold seed corn for 20 years with Jacques Seed Company in Prescott.  In 2001, Frank quit dairy farming due to his health but continued to raise steers and crop farm.   He always wanted his grandchildren to know the value of being raised on the farm.  Frank was a life long member of Sabylund Lutheran Church and a member of the Plum City American Legion Post #365.  He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laurel Haglund and her husband, Bob; brother, Charles Bjurquist and his wife, Edna; and brother-in-law, Sonny Nielsen.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Delores; son, Todd (Tina) Bjurquist; daughter, Christina (Edward) Schaefer; grandchildren, Marah and Alex; siblings; Wanda (Leonard) Olson, Nonie Nielsen, Elliot (Betty) Bjurquist, Lois (Jim) Albarado, Jerry (Karen) Bjurquist, Lee (Kathie) Bjurquist, Nolan Bjurquist; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  A funeral service was held on Monday, March 17th at 11:00 am at Sabylund Lutheran Church in Lund with Pastor Susan Odegard officiating.  Visitation was held Sunday, March 16th from 3-7 pm at Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Maiden Rock and also one hour before the service at the church Monday.   Interment was in the Old Sabylund Cemetery with Nathan Bjurquist, Jeff Albarado, Andy Bjurquist, Dan Bjurquist, Jack Duden and John Drier as the pallbearers.  Military honors will be performed by Plum City American Legion Post #365. Arrangements were with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Maiden Rock.

CLAASSEN

Neil J. Claassen, age 63 of New Richmond peacefully went to be with his Savior on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at his home surrounded by family and friends.  Neil was born the son of Eugene and Eilene Claassen in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 27, 1945.  He graduated from Bagley High School, and served his country in the Air Force.  Neil worked for Sperry Univac, Hughes Aircraft, and Johnson Motors.  After being trained and certified as a computer specialist, Neil opened Claassen’s Computer Consulting.  Neil loved to invent and create.  He was gifted in the area of technology and customer relations, treating everyone with kindness and integrity.  He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in New Richmond.  Neil is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Eilene Claassen.  He is survived by his wife, Anyrine Claassen; children, Larry Claassen and wife, Michele, Teresa Anderson and husband, Todd, Nicole Fee and husband, Christopher, Jessica Claassen, and Laura Van Vorst and husband, Ethan; grandchildren, Jonathan, Megan, Sierra, and Benjamin Claassen, Shanteill, Ethan and Oakley Anderson, and Andrew and Julia FeeA Funeral Service was held on Sunday, March 16, 2008 at 2 pm at the 1st Baptist Church in New Richmond.  Visitation was on Saturday, March 15, 2008 from 4-8 pm at the 1st Baptist Church and on Sunday for 1 hour before the service.  Interment was in the New Richmond Cemetery.  Memorial may be directed to 1st Baptist Church or Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.  Arrangements are with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

PETERSON

Dolores E. Peterson age 77 of New Richmond died on March 10, 2008 at the St. Croix Health Center.  She was born to Sanford and Ruth (Evenson) Selvig on May 4, 1930 in Pierce County, WI.  On June 5, 1948, Dolores married Donald Peterson in Amery, WI.  She worked at Holy Family Hospital for 7 years and St. Croix County Health Center, retiring after 30 years.  Dolores enjoyed listening to country music and playing piano, accordian and violin.  She loved crocheting, camping and bird watching.  Dolores was a wonderful mother and grandmother.  She will be missed by her children, Kathy (Michael) Prom of Farmington, MN, Nancy (Kevin Broten) Peterson of New Richmond, Diane (Terry) Singerhouse of New Richmond, Mary (Curt) Volkert of New Richmond, Jim (Jessie Collins) Peterson of New Richmond; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.  Dolores is preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Ethel Yakimo Rhoades; half-sister, Sandra Selvig; husband, Donald Peterson; and son, Rodney Peterson.  A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 13th at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church, New Richmond.  Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 12th from 4-8 pm at Beebe Mortuary and also one hour before the service at church on Thursday.  Interment was in the Little Falls Lutheran Cemetery with Sean Wurtinger, Larry Erickson, Jr., Jeremy Erickson, Jordan Peterson, Brandon Volkert, Jay Singerhouse, Paul Singerhouse and Dustin Volkert as the pallbearers.  Arrangements are with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

HOVDE

Gerald “Buck” Hovde, age 86 and lifelong resident of Pepin, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Pepin Manor.  Buck was born the son of Hans and Carrie (Olson) Hovde on December 25, 1921.  He was a graduate of Pepin High School with the class of 1939.  Buck worked at Lakeview Creamery until joining the Navy in July of 1942.  He served as a Pharmacists Mate during WWII.  After the war, Buck came home and went to work for Northern Wisconsin Manufacturing as a bookkeeper.  He worked there for over 40 years retiring in the late 1980’s.  Buck was a charter member of the Pepin Lions Club serving as Treasurer for many years.  He also was a member of the Pepin Sportsman Club, VFW Post 4086 and American Legion Post 0158.  Buck’s best pal was a Beagle named Benjamin.  He would take him for a ride in the car every day.  They would stop for ice cream and hotdogs.  After which, Buck liked to stop in at Ralph’s Bar.  Buck is preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Carrie Hovde; brothers, Roy Hovde and Clyde Hovde; sisters, Merle Ingalls, Blanche Rettinger and Eve Hovde; and a two month old sibling.  He is survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  A Memorial Gathering was held on Friday, March 14, 2008 from 1-3 pm with a prayer service at 2:45 pm at the Bakken-Young Funeral Home in Maiden Rock.  Interment was on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 3:30 pm in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pepin.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Maiden Rock.

KUHN

Juanita M. Kuhn age 97 of New Richmond, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the St. Croix Health Center. Juanita was born January 19, 1911 to David and Elizabeth (Ehlers) Rumery in Chippewa Falls.  On October 28, 1940, Juanita married Bernard Kuhn of Stanley, WI in Waukon, IA.  Bernard and Juanita both were employed at Chippewa County Hospital until January 1947.  They then became superintendent and matron of the St. Croix County Health Center at New Richmond.  After retirement they remained residents of New Richmond to the present time.  Bernard passed away on April 26, 2000.  Juanita continued to make her home in New Richmond until her death.  She is survived by one sister, Edna Thompson of Vienna, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In keeping with Juanita’s wishes no services were held and interment of her cremated remains will be private.  Arrangements were with Beebe Mortuary of New Richmond.

LYSS

Raymond L. Lyss age 83 of Hudson died Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Ray was born the son of John and Helen (Figlewski) Lyss in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 15, 1925.  He served in the US Navy during WWII.  On May 18, 1946 he married Mary L. Ensminger in Milwaukee.  Ray loved his children and grandchildren and was a faithfull follower of Jesus Christ.  Thank you to the staff at the Minnesota Veterans Home for the wonderful care given to Raymond and Mary.  Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Lyss; wife, Mary L. Lyss; daughter, Diana Lyss; and brothers and sisters.  He is survived by his children, Michael (Kenlyn) Lyss of Greer, SC and Gail Richie of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Joe Richie, Mike (Erin) Richie, and Amanda Richie; and sister, Sylvia (Elmer) Janka of Wautoma, WI.  A Private graveside service was held at Union Cemetery in St. Paul, MN.  Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Twin Cities 10405 6th Avenue North Suite 250 Plymouth, Minnesota 55441.  Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services of Hudson.
